Offset Carbon with Ease: Less than Zero’s Platform Simplifies Sustainable Solutions

Less Than Zero (LTZ) is a sustainability focused enablement company that facilitates the carbon offsetting process. LTZ ‘s technology platform brings registered carbon projects and their allotted and available inventory of carbon credits into ease of reach to the public.

Not only can individuals and corporates purchase recognised carbon credits through LTZ’s platform for their own benefit (that is to offset an already measured carbon footprint linked to an activity, service or product), LTZ’s added solutions include a “Shared benefit module” and a “Passed on benefit module” for passing value onto their end user customer.

Shared benefit module

The “Shared benefit module” is built on two models.

The first model is the Product Model where companies that have undertaken a full product lifecycle assessment to quantify the cradle to grave emissions associated with their products can bundle this product specific information with a carbon offset certificate directly on the product receipt or packaging. This not only gives full transparency to the customer regarding the carbon footprint associated with the manufacture and use of the product but confirmation that mitigation efforts have already been taken to compensate for this negative impact.

The second model is the Services Model where service companies like hotels that may have already calculated the carbon intensity (i.e. relative Scope 1 & 2 emissions) associated with their services (like room night stays and conference venue hire) can not only communicate this valuable information to their customers or guests, but enables them to simultaneously compensate for (offset) part or all of this negative footprint at the time of sale with a nominal cost built into the service price. This not only enhances their environmental standing but provides real value to their corporate customers who can not only report more accurately on their upstream (Scope 3) emissions but can also declare that these emissions have already been compensated for by the entity directly responsible for these emissions.

Passed-on benefit module

Rewarding Customers for Indirect Activities with Measurable Impact.

The “Passed-on benefit module” is for where an organisation might as a value-added offering choose to compensate for their customers’ activities that the organisation itself isn’t actually directly responsible for but is able to easily measure. Like an office automation company that provides metered printers to its clients. The office automation company can choose to compensate for the end-user’s carbon footprint associated with the user’s consumption of office paper.

Across all of the solutions we encourage clients to aim for a Less than Zero carbon footprint which is essentially saying that one should try and not only offset one’s current measured footprint but also consider making up for prior footprints or for those of others who aren’t able to or don’t care.

For LTZ we feel that double offsetting is not a bad thing. End user customers should also be given the choice to match the product or service offsetting that has already taken place and the LTZ platform also facilitates this.
